Bear walks
This is my last day. For the time being back to Canada. As last walk I had bear, a Canadian icon wearing a lumber Jacket, ( "a warm, thick jacket, typically in a bright color with a check pattern, of the kind worn by lumberjacks" From The Oxford Pocket Dictionary of Current English 2009) again a Canadian icon, pose in Chica's wagon.

sitting in the wagon while raining
No, it's nice weather today, actually hot. Though, it's too dry So some older shots taken from the wagon while it's poring. Who knows maybe it will evoke a few days of rain.

around the camp
To day no walk , but pictures from a walk I did last year. Around the camp, sometimes looking out and sometimes on to the camp.
These pictures (taken last year) are from a walk around the camp. The camp 13 min bike ride from downtown of Groningen (population 182.800). Is located on a dead end street at the edge of the city.

Jantje
The previous images have shown the beauty of this place, these pictures show another story. This is Jantje's wagon, this week the city will remove it. Jantje is locked up in an institution he has Korsakov, memory loss due to severe alcohol abuse. He has become violent. I remember him 14 years ago as a dedicated and skilled gardener. The garden now overgrown by stinging nettle, his wagon falling apart. I want to remember him as I knew him, the Jantje with the beautiful garden.

waking up in a wagon
This photowalk is different, not a walk around the camp but the steps of getting out of bed and walking towards the coffee maker. The wagon I am staying in what is called in Holland a 'schaft keet', which Rob and Gerda from Clinch target="relative" completely stripped and rebuild.

kokomobiel
The Kokomobile is a mobile catering business run by Nynke De Lima-Heegstra. The photographs are at the Westergas fabriek in Amsterdam during the set-up of the stage for a 4 days rock festival. To bad I could only be there for 1 day.

The circus
A few days ago I went to visit the circus Fantasia. My friends of the acrobat group Clinch are touring with them. Every evening the circus sets up camp on vacation parks and campgrounds in Holland.
Their wagons are busses and caravans not traditional circus wagons, which are to expensive to buy, maintain, store and transport.

Display of traditional circus wagons
Pictures of a oldtimer gathering which had an old 'woonwagen' (living wagon)section. The wagon seen on display are restored and used for vacation. The owners are mostly not gypsies or travelers or citynomads. These wagons are similar to the one I lived in all year round and owned. More later on why living in a wagon is so special.
The raised roof with the small windows is called a 'koekkoek' The story is that when the gypsies came to town , locals would peer (the dutch word for this is 'koekeloeren',the origin of the term koekkoek) into their window. To have some privacy they had to close the curtains making the wagons dark. Here for the raised roof with the windows.
The last three pictures are of the campground which is part of the gathering, there are some wagons in between the caravans. These wagons were not for public viewing.
